How Does Remote Start Work?

The primary advantage of using remote start is that you can start up your Jeep vehicle without using the ignition key or even setting foot inside the cabin! You can start your Jeep from the comfort of your couch, office, or virtually anywhere within range of the key fob or Jeep App. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic climate control, the remote start system can also set the heat or air conditioning to a comfortable level based on the exterior temperature. We’ll explain in greater detail below how you can use this system via the key fob and through the Jeep App.

Please note: Operation may vary based on the individual Jeep model, key fob style, and remote start system fitted to the vehicle. Consider these operation tips as a general guide when using the remote start feature.

Key Fob Remote Start Instructions:

Step One: Press the Lock button.

Step Two: Within a 5-second window, either double-tap or hold down the Engine Start button to engage the ignition. Operation varies by model, model year, key fob type, and other factors.

Step Three: Remote Start will allow the engine to run for a fixed interval (usually between 10 and 15 minutes). During this time, accessories and exterior lighting will remain off while features like the climate control system will operate normally.

Helpful Tips for Using Remote Start

  • Never use remote start when your vehicle is located in an enclosed area, such as a garage. For safety, make sure to only use this feature in open and well-ventilated areas.
  • Similar to the above tip, never use remote start if your vehicle is parked under a car cover. These materials pose a fire risk.
  • Avoid using remote start if your vehicle is parked near or on top of any potentially flammable materials. Examples include dead grass, leaves, mulch, wood, oil, grease, or paper.
